- Meadow Edge Lane building in 77388 finished?
When we bought in Timber Lane back in 1988, there was practically nothing out that way along Louetta except pine trees and a couple of two-lane cut-throughs. A small 4,900 square foot building isn't going to disrupt the neighborhood much. I would much rather see a quiet small business warehouse there than another huge apartment complex dumping hundreds of cars onto the roads.

- Has anyone heard about Wonder opening on Spring Stuebner?
When we moved to Timber Lane back in 1988, Spring Stuebner was mostly just open trees and quiet stretches. If you wanted something to eat, you had to head over to I-45 or down into Old Town Spring. Now we have a one million dollar kitchen facility going in. It certainly sounds convenient for young families, though I do hope the county looks at the turning lanes there.

- St Augustine versus keeping half the yard as beds. What has survived a Spring summer for you?
When we built our house in Timber Lane back in 1988, everyone had big green lawns of St Augustine and we watered them whenever we pleased. Things are different now with the heat and the water bills. About ten years ago my knees told me I could not manage a heavy push mower on the side slope anymore. I put in Mexican bush sage, purple plumbago, and bottle brush bushes. They take the Texas summer without dropping dead the minute you turn your back. The key is getting them established in early spring before the soil bakes like a brick. Once their roots are deep, you hardly have to touch them.

- Reliable mechanic near louetta or spring cypress?
My late husband used to do all our car work in the driveway, but since he passed I have had to find people I can trust on my own. It can be very intimidating walking into a garage by yourself. I have had good experiences with the smaller local shops along Spring Cypress over the years. Whichever place you pick, call ahead in the morning to see how full their bays are. If they are backed up, ask if you can bring it first thing another morning so you are not left without transportation all afternoon for a simple sensor swap.

- Where do you take out of town family when they visit for a weekend?
When we moved to Timber Lane back in 1988, there was not much out here except trees and a few two-lane roads. If family came to visit, we drove clear down to the Galleria or the airport just to find something to do. These days, you do not need to leave the area at all. My siblings always want to go to Old Town Spring whenever they are in town. We start at the shops along Spring Cypress Road and work our way around. It has that older Texas feel that folks from up north really enjoy. Just make sure your in-laws wear good walking shoes because the brick sidewalks can be a little uneven in places.

Been sitting through storms in Spring since 1988 and the main lesson I learned after Hurricane Ike and every bad blow since is to freeze water in washed out milk jugs starting in May. Fill them three quarters full so they do not burst when they freeze. If power drops, you move two into the fridge and keep the rest in the freezer to hold the temp. When they melt, you have clean water for flushing toilets or washing hands. Also, buy a paper plate stash now. You do not want to use your stored drinking water to wash greasy dinner plates in the dark. My grandkids think it is a luxury to eat off paper plates for three days straight.

When I moved to Timber Lane back in eighty eight, strays used to wander down Cypresswood all the time before everything got built up like it is now. My husband kept a spare slip leash in the truck just for those moments. If the chip scan comes up empty, call Harris County Pets or Montgomery County Animal Shelter depending on which side of the county line you picked him up on. In the meantime, writing found dog on a piece of poster board and taping it near the neighborhood mailboxes usually works faster than anything online for local neighborhood runners.

- Need a reliable plumber who actually shows up near Louetta area
We have used Milton at Klein Plumbing since we built our home back in 1994. He retired a few years ago but his nephew took over the trucks and they still treat people right. They are based right off Kuykendahl near Cypresswood. If you call them in the morning, the receptionist will usually give you a reasonable two hour window instead of making you sit around all day waiting.

When we bought our home back in 1988 near Cypresswood, Spring felt like a completely different town. The taxes felt high to us back then too, but over thirty years, having that house paid off became the best financial decision we ever made for our family. My advice for young families moving in is not to rush into buying until you drive the neighborhood at different times of day. Drive through at 7:30 AM on a school day to see what the carpool line traffic near the school does to your street, and check where the water goes after a heavy rain. Taxes are important, but peace of mind on your street matters just as much.

- What is the one thing you wish someone told you before moving to Spring?
When we bought our house in Timber Lane back in 1988, an old neighbor told me to look at the trees and the roadside ditches before looking at the house itself. I did not fully grasp what she meant until my first heavy storm season here. Spring is so green because water is constantly moving through our area toward Cypress Creek and Spring Creek. You need to know your flood map, keep your street gutters clear of yard waste, and never try to drive through the low spots near Riley Fuzzel or Collins Park after a downpour. The town has grown immensely over thirty-five years, but water still follows the same natural paths.

- How did you choose your pediatrician (and when did you know it was time to switch?)
When I was raising my own kids here back in the nineties, we had one small practice off Cypresswood and you saw the exact same doctor every single visit. Raising my grandkids now, everything seems to have grown so much bigger. But the main rule stays the same. A good doctor will never make a new mother feel foolish for asking a question. We switched my grandson's doctor two years ago when we felt his breathing concerns were being brushed aside. You know your baby better than anyone else does.
