Lantern festival at City Place next month?

Hi everyone. I saw the City Place Water Lantern Festival is coming up on Saturday Nov 21. It looks pretty but I have never been. Gates open at 2:30 and the actual launch is at dusk. Has anyone gone before? Is it worth the ticket price for a toddler?

When my children were young we used to go down to the creek with paper boats. It was a simple time. If you go to this festival you should bring a blanket because the ground gets damp near the water in november. It is a very sweet way to spend an evening.

It was all pine trees out here once

I went last time. Quick notes: - Park in the garages early - Strollers are okay but it gets packed by the food trucks - The acoustic music is nice for background noise - Bring a sharpie for your lantern

I am looking at the tickets now and they are pricey for what you get. You are basically paying for a kit and access to the plaza. We might just watch from the public path for free.

We went and it was SO beautiful! My kids loved decorating their lanterns. It is very crowded though so hold onto their hands tight.

Cori, are you planning on eating there or just doing the lantern launch? The food truck lines can be over forty minutes long based on the attendance last time. I would like to know if they have added more vendors this year.

The plaza area is fine but watch the kids near the ornamental plantings. People keep trying to plant northern bulbs there but they just rot in our humidity. Stick to the paved paths if it rained recently.

We use events like this for our art units. It is a great way to talk about light and reflection. If anyone needs a list of library books about floating lanterns let me know. We usually pack our own snacks because the truck food is rarely healthy enough for us.

Hannah, I just need the trucks for the coffee. I usually have a laptop in my bag just in case a Friday deadline bleeds into my Saturday.

Thanks for the tips. I think we will try to get there at 2:30 to find a spot. I forgot about the damp grass so I will bring the waterproof outdoor blanket.
