Found a dog near spring trails entrance plus need a local vet rec

Hi everyone, sorry to ask another newbie question! A super friendly black lab mix was running loose right off Rayford near the neighborhood entrance around 8:00 this morning. I managed to lure him into my garage with some chicken deli meat and he has a collar but no tags. Is there a vet in the area that will scan for a microchip for free without charging an office visit? Back in Ohio we could just walk into any clinic or shelter and they would scan right in the lobby. Also, we still need to establish with a regular vet for our own cat, so I would love recommendations for someone good around Spring Cypress or Louetta!

Do not pay anyone to scan a chip. Any clinic worth going to will scan a stray at the front desk for free in ten seconds. Walk right in, tell the receptionist you found a stray and want to check for a microchip. If they try to charge you a fee, walk right back out because that is ridiculous. While he is in your garage, keep him separated from your cat completely. Even friendly dogs can act totally different when stressed in an unfamiliar space. Give him a bowl of water and do not feed him any more food or treats in case he needs medical care or has a sensitive stomach.

If it is bleeding call, do not post

Oh poor baby! I hope you find his family soon. Definitely post his picture on the local lost and found pet groups on Facebook too, people share those posts so fast in our area. For your cat, we have gone to Champions Forest Animal Clinic off Louetta for years and love Dr. Davis. Gracias for taking care of that sweet doggie while he is lost!

When I moved to Timber Lane back in eighty eight, strays used to wander down Cypresswood all the time before everything got built up like it is now. My husband kept a spare slip leash in the truck just for those moments. If the chip scan comes up empty, call Harris County Pets or Montgomery County Animal Shelter depending on which side of the county line you picked him up on. In the meantime, writing found dog on a piece of poster board and taping it near the neighborhood mailboxes usually works faster than anything online for local neighborhood runners.

It was all pine trees out here once

The fire station on Rayford has a chip scanner at the desk too if you cannot get to a vet clinic right away.
