Tuesday night dining out with kids where grown ups can actually enjoy the food?

Asking because back in Ohio we had this cozy little brewpub with a fenced play area, and I am still trying to figure out where people go around Spring on a weeknight when you just cannot cook. My kids are 4 and 6 and if there is nothing for them to do while waiting for food, someone is going to melt down under the table. But I also really do not want another round of bland chicken nuggets in a room that smells like plastic play pits! What are your actual go-to spots around Louetta, 2920, or up near Grand Parkway where the food is actually good for adults?

Willie’s on 2920! Sandbox out back, margaritas inside, kids eat their sliders in the dirt and I get to sit there and pretend my house isn’t a mess for 45 minutes straight.

If I get off I-45 before 5:45 we do Hat Creek on Spring Cypress. The playground is enclosed so you do not have to stand right on top of them. Food is surprisingly decent for a burger place. Get there early though because by 6:15 on a school night that patio line gets long.

For Mexican food on a weeknight, we love Rancho Grande off Kuykendahl. The staff is so patient with small kids, mi mamá always orders the sizzling fajitas and they bring out chips right away before the kids start getting restless. If we are closer to I-45, Gringo’s on Cypresswood is another classic. The free soft serve at the end keeps my youngest happy every single time.

Just a note for anyone dealing with food allergies when dining out locally. Hat Creek on Spring Cypress has been very clear with us about their fryer procedures for dairy and gluten, though we always still double check with the manager on duty before ordering. Crust Pizza Co off Louetta is another one we use because they have a solid gluten-free crust option, but as always, please call ahead and inform your server if you have severe peanut or tree nut cross-contamination concerns.

We stick to kids-eat-free night schedules when we eat out. Texas Roadhouse off 45 used to have a kid night deal on Tuesdays, though you have to watch the crowds. If we want actual good food without spending seventy dollars, we grab a family pack of chopped pork from Spring Creek Barbeque off I-45 and eat at the picnic tables at Collins Park off Cypresswood. Kids run on the grass and I am not paying six dollars for a soft drink.

If you want something a little more low key in Old Town Spring, Wunsche Bros Cafe has great fried green tomatoes and poison apple pie for dessert. It is historical so no playground, but the atmosphere is casual enough that nobody looks at you weird if your kid drops a crayon. We also like sitting on the porch at local spots near Louetta when the evening weather is not totally stifling.

Mine are fifteen now so kid-friendly just means anywhere that serves enough calories to stop them from eating the furniture. Enjoy the playground years while you have them! Pretty soon your Tuesday night dining out is just driving through Torchy’s on Louetta after sport practice and eating tacos in the driveway.

Quick breakdown from someone who orders out every Tuesday after wrapping client calls at 5:00: 1. Hat Creek (Spring Cypress) - best contained playground setup. 2. Local Table (Grand Parkway area) - great adult menu, high chairs, very forgiving atmosphere. 3. Lupe Tortilla (I-45 near Shenandoah/Spring edge) - giant sand pit outside, excellent fajitas, though pricier. If my dog starts barking on my last call I just grab takeout from Brothers Pizza on Louetta and call it a day.

Seconding Willie’s on 2920! We ran into three families from our street there last Tuesday around 6:00. The kids just run back and forth to the sandbox while parents sit on the covered porch. Easy night out and very close if you live off Holzwarth or Spring Cypress.
