• Spring ISD STAAR EOC results out today

  Algebra I EOC gave my twins gray hair last year and we are in Klein ISD. High school math test season is pure psychological warfare. If Spring ISD managed a 16 point jump in passing Algebra I, whoever is teaching ninth grade math over there deserves a massive gift card.

• Tuesday night dining out with kids where grown ups can actually enjoy the food?

  Mine are fifteen now so kid-friendly just means anywhere that serves enough calories to stop them from eating the furniture. Enjoy the playground years while you have them! Pretty soon your Tuesday night dining out is just driving through Torchy’s on Louetta after sport practice and eating tacos in the driveway.

• Teen first jobs in spring area - who is actually hiring 15/16 year olds right now?

  My twins turned 15 a few months ago and one of them is desperate to start working. He wants his own money for shoes and eventually gas money when they start driving. But it seems like everywhere online says 16 minimum, or you apply online and it goes straight into a void. Where are your teens actually getting hired around Spring, Klein, or the Woodlands edge? Are HEB or Chick-fil-A still the go-to or is it impossible to get in without knowing someone? Do kids still walk in and ask for a manager or does that just annoy people now?

• What is the one thing you wish someone told you before moving to Spring?

  That your kids will need heavy hoodies in August. School starts when it is 100 degrees outside, but the classrooms are cooled down to sub-zero temperatures. Mine walk out to the car sweating and spend all day at school wearing fleece. I gave up trying to make sense of it.
