  • Best breakfast tacos around spring / louetta / rayford?

If you want to make your own like Beck said, grab the raw Tortillaland flour tortillas from the refrigerated section at HEB. Throw them on a hot Lodge cast iron skillet for forty seconds each side. Way better than pre-baked bag tortillas and tastes just like the taco stands without leaving the house.

  • St Augustine versus keeping half the yard as beds. What has survived a Spring summer for you?

We took out about four hundred square feet of dead sod along our back fence in Lexington Woods three years ago. If you just lay down dirt and plants, you will be pulling weeds forever. What made it work for us was putting down heavy landscape fabric, securing it with six inch staples, and laying down four inches of chopped hardwood mulch from the bulk yard off Louetta. We put in a simple drip line off the hose spigot with an Orbit timer. The lantana and Texas sage survived that awful August heat last year with water only twice a week.

  • Clearing out kids clothes and gear - what are your local BST golden rules?

If you do porch pickup, make sure your Ring camera or whatever security camera you have actually covers the porch area clearly. I installed a small metal cash box with a combination lock mounted inside a plastic container on my porch. I change the code once a month. Buyers just drop the cash in the slot and take their bag. Works great and keeps cash safe from blowing away or getting pinched.

  • Reliable mechanic near louetta or spring cypress?

Do not pay for air filters or flushes when you go in! You can swap a cabin filter yourself in five minutes after watching a YouTube video, I promise. For actual mechanical work, my husband and I have used Louetta Automotive near Louetta and Stuebner Airline for years. They test things properly before writing up a quote. If it is just an O2 sensor, tell them upfront that is all you are authorizing today. Any good shop will respect a budget boundary.

  • Package thefts getting worse on our street - what are you guys actually doing?

I built a lockbox for our porch last summer out of pressure treated pine from the Lowe's off 249. It has a one way drop mechanism so once the driver drops the package in, nobody can reach down to grab it out without the key. The trick is you have to write CLEAR instructions in your delivery profile for Amazon, UPS, and FedEx. I also put a bold sign right on top of the box that says DROP PACKAGES HERE. FedEx and UPS follow it about 90 percent of the time. Amazon flex drivers can be hit or miss depending on how fast they are rushing.

  • Real storm prep tips for hurricane season (not just buying 50 cases of water)

You do not need a twenty thousand dollar whole house setup unless you have medical equipment or just extra cash burning a hole in your pocket. A good five to six thousand watt inverter generator running off gasoline or dual fuel will run a window unit AC, your fridge, and a couple lamps. My prep every May: test run the generator with fresh gas, change the oil if needed, and run a heavy gauge extension cord to test the portable AC unit. Do not wait until the storm enters the Gulf to find out your carburetor is gummed up with old fuel from last summer. Also, clear tree limbs within six feet of your roof line. If a branch is hanging near the main service drop line from the pole, call CenterPoint now. Do not trim near power lines yourself.

  • Need a reliable plumber who actually shows up near Louetta area

Thank you all so much. I just called Bradbury based on the multiple mentions here and they actually answered on the second ring. Got me on the schedule for tomorrow morning first thing so I do not have to mess up my work schedule or deal with the utility sink backing up again. I really appreciate the local advice!

  • Need a reliable plumber who actually shows up near Louetta area

I usually clear our minor drain clogs and swap out basic valves myself with my husband, but our main line cleanout near the back patio is backing up into the utility sink whenever the washing machine drains. I know my limits and I am tapping out. Called two local places off Google yesterday morning. One gave me a four hour window and never called or showed up, and the other said they could not get anyone out until late next week. Who do you ladies actually use around Spring and Klein who answers the phone, shows up when they say they will, and will not charge me a fortune just to snake a line?
