Teen first jobs in spring area - who is actually hiring 15/16 year olds right now?

Chick-fil-A on Louetta and the one off Spring Cypress both hire at 15 but you have to check the individual store postings on their specific site, not general job boards. HEB hires checkers and baggers at 16, but occasionally 15 for parking lot and curbside retrieve depending on store need. Another option that paid really well for my oldest was youth sports refereeing. Soccer clubs out off Riley Fuzzel and the baseball leagues around Klein pay per game. They train them, the pay is anywhere from 15 to 25 dollars a game depending on the age group, and they work around school schedules. Cash or weekly direct deposit.

Seconding the refereeing! My oldest refereeed youth soccer for two seasons while at Oak and it was the best money he made all high school. Plus he was already at the fields every weekend anyway! Also check the swim clubs and county parks when spring comes around for lifeguard certification. Pundt Park and Collins Park area summer programs usually hire 16 year olds for gate staff and concessions. Walking in and asking for a manager STILL WORKS at local places though. Do not let them just submit an app online and sit on their phone!

Walking in definitely still works for the small family shops in Old Town Spring! Just do not come on a Saturday afternoon when the shops are packed with weekend tourists. A Tuesday or Wednesday morning or early afternoon when things are quiet is the best time to drop off a resume and introduce themselves to the owner. A lot of boutique owners love hiring local high school kids for weekend help or stocking, especially moving into the busy spring market season.

Lifeguarding for sure. Texas Swim Academy and local HOA pools hire 15 and 16 year olds like crazy as soon as March rolls around. They even pay for part of the cert if you commit to the summer season.

Just a heads up on scheduling once they do get hired. Make sure you set firm boundaries on school nights right from the beginning. Texas labor laws limit hours for 15 year olds during the school year anyway, but some places will schedule them right up to the line. My senior worked at a fast casual spot on Kuykendahl starting at 16 and we had to have a talk with his manager early on because they kept scheduling him until 10:30 PM on Sunday nights when he had AP classes at 7:30 AM on Monday. Once we set the schedule availability in writing it was fine, but you have to watch them.

If they apply online for a place like HEB, have them go in two days later dressed nice and ask the customer service desk who handles hiring for front end.
