Rainy day ideas for toddlers that are cheap or free?

My little guy is almost 14 months and starting to climb the walls when it rains like this. I tried taking him to an indoor play place last week but it was almost twenty dollars just for him plus another fee for me! Are there free or very low cost places in the area where he can just crawl around and burn off energy without me spending a fortune every time it drizzles? Where do you all go when the weather is miserable like today? Is the Barbara Bush library children area open all day for free play?

Yes, the Barbara Bush Library off Cypresswood is fantastic for rainy days! The children section on the first floor is completely free and they have early literacy toys, puzzles, and board books out for toddlers. A few of our favorite low cost rainy day spots: - Barbara Bush Branch Library on Cypresswood (great indoor play area, totally free) - Baldwin Boettcher Library near Mercer (check their schedule for toddler storytimes) - The indoor play area inside The Woodlands Mall (free, though parking on rainy days can get busy so go early) - HEB on Louetta or Stuebner Airline (sounds silly, but putting a toddler in the little car cart and walking wide aisles on a slow morning works wonders) If you do the library, just check their online calendar first because storytime mornings bring in a big crowd.

seconding the woodlands mall play area just be ready to run after him because it gets wild in there when big kids are around. honestly when mine were that age I would just take them to bass pro shops off I-45 and let them stare at the giant fish tank for an hour straight completely free and kept them entertained forever haha

I refuse to pay those play cafe prices on a regular morning. It adds up way too fast with three kids. Chick-fil-A play structures are still free if you just buy a cold drink or a small ice cream cone. The one on Louetta near Kuykendahl has a good indoor play area and it is enclosed so you can actually sit down for ten minutes while he climbs. Also McDonalds on Spring Cypress has an indoor play area. Just bring hand sanitizer and pack your own baby snacks to keep costs down!

Ay, rainy days with toddlers are no joke! When my kids were chiquitos and it rained non stop, we used to go walk around Willowbrook Mall early. The mall doors open before the actual stores do, so it is completely empty, dry, and clean for a baby to toddle around while you walk. Also if you are up near Rayford or Sawdust, the bakery section at Target or HEB is always a hit. My kids used to love looking at the birthday cakes in the display glass while I drank my coffee.
