Did anyone else see the senior class gift project at Frassati?

We were driving back from soccer practice over at Meyer Park on Tuesday night and my husband decided to take the back way past Frassati Way instead of getting stuck on TC Jester. Anyway! I noticed they were doing work near St. Michael the Archangel Field. A friend of mine whose daughter is a senior there told me the Class of 2026 senior class fundraiser was for their class gift, and they are putting in new flagpoles for the Texas flag and the Vatican flag next to the American flag out by the football field. I think they already hit over 90 percent of their ten thousand dollar goal during back to school month in August. I just think it is so sweet when senior classes do something permanent for their campus!

Raising ten thousand dollars right at the start of the school year during back to school season is no small feat! As PTO president over here at Windrose, I know how hard it is to pull off a fundraiser in August when parents are already buying supplies, paying fees, and getting hit with twenty different sign up forms. Kudos to those Frassati seniors. A permanent field upgrade like flagpoles is such a nice legacy gift compared to something that gets used once and thrown away.

St. Michael field is really coming along! My nephew played a game over there last season. Did an Eagle Scout put up the original flagpole out there, or am I thinking of Concordia Lutheran? I could swear someone told me a Scout did the first one. Either way, good for those kids. Football season starts so fast down here, so having flags up for kickoff nights makes the whole stadium look complete.

You are right Karen, a local Eagle Scout installed the American flag out there originally! My neighbor's son is in Scouts with the troop that helped with that project, so he was telling us about it. It is going to look so nice having the Texas flag and the Vatican flag flanking the US flag now. Dios mio, ten thousand dollars is a big goal for high schoolers, but they knocked it out so fast during August.

Raising over 90 percent of a ten thousand dollar goal in one month is impressive work by their treasurer and team. From a budget perspective, class gifts can get tricky if there is no clear maintenance plan attached. 1. Does the ten thousand cover just the pole procurement and installation? 2. Did they budget for concrete footings and proper night illumination? Texas wind around those open fields off Spring Cypress will take a heavy toll on commercial flaglines if they are not anchored right.

If it is not in the spreadsheet it did not happen

Whitney, ten grand for two flagpoles sounds steep until you start pricing commercial grade exterior poles and poured concrete pads. We looked into adding a flagpole at our community park a few years ago and the quote made me drop my binder. The hardware alone is crazy. I am just glad the seniors raised the money themselves through their drive instead of the school sticking parents with another mandatory fee on top of tuition!

Oh Beck, I completely agree! High school costs add up so fast, so seeing the students take ownership of a project like that is so neat. My girls are still in elementary dance, but I am already dreading the high school fundraising years. We drove down Frassati Way again this morning on the way to HEB on Spring Cypress and I kept pointing towards the athletic fields to see if the new poles were up yet!

Amy, just wait until you have middle schoolers and high schoolers in two different activities! The sign ups never end. But seriously, good for the Frassati seniors. Hitting over 90 percent in August gives them plenty of time to wrap it up before senior events start taking over their spring semester.
